Securing Today's Electricity for Tomorrow's Needs

Diagnosis and Protection of Electric Systems with Power Electronics

At the forefront of electrical protection for advanced systems

DIAPROLEC is an interdisciplinary research project dedicated to developing innovative diagnosis and protection methods for the latest advancements in electrical system technologies.

Diagnosis and Condition Monitoring

Advanced techniques for electric energy storage systems, distributed generation, rotary and linear motors, next-generation power converters, and smart grids

Experimental Validation

Applying developed methods in state-of-the-art laboratories with medium-sized electric systems, including electric vehicles, DC smart grids, energy storage systems, wave energy conversion systems, and more

Protection Systems Development

Integrating diagnostic methods into modern protection relays and coordinating them across scalable systems.

Integration, Coordination and Society Approach

Assembling and scaling developed methods into larger applications to ensure system reliability and user safety.

Full protection against electrical faults.
Innovative technology for a safer future.

DIAPROLEC was created to address current challenges in protecting systems reliant on power electronics. Conventional protection methods often fail under high-frequency conditions. Our solutions enhance equipment reliability, enable faster maintenance, and ensure the safety of distributed generation, energy storage systems, electric transportation, and—most importantly—people.

The exponential growth of converter-based systems underscores the need for DIAPROLEC’s cutting-edge approach to electrical safety.

Supported by the European Union Commission and the Spanish Government, DIAPROLEC aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), placing our work at the forefront of global efforts to enhance electrical safety.

Our project unites three leading Spanish organizations and more than 15 expert researchers, combining decades of experience in electrical systems and power electronics.
